Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered momentum and circuits. The student was getting better with his circuit analysis. He still had some questions with the more difficult momentum problems, mainly how to convert linear momentum to angular momentum. We discussed this problem and he seems to understand now. I will give him some practice problems to see if he has retained the material."
"The student and I had a good session. We continued working on moving through the material for his upcoming chemistry test. We spent our time working through the more complex parts of chapter 20. Most of this material had to do with entropy and free energy. We also talked about plans for studying for the rest of the weekend."
"We did specific heat calculations, and sigfig problems. We also went through the specific heat lab session together and finish his lab report. We also made plan for next Tuesday to study chemical states changes and heating curves."
"The student and I reviewed topics for her upcoming chemistry test this week. We worked problems from her exam review, including calorimetry, phase change and energy associated therein, ideal gas laws, partial pressure, and the combined gas law. She was picking up topics really well and we went over lots of equations and conceptual tools for her exam. I asked her to reach out to me in case she has any questions before exam, and I'll be happy to help out in any way I can!"
"We went over several free-response questions on capacitors - both in RC circuits and finding the voltage/ electric field from a given geometry. He had to be reminded about the RC time constant, but was able to recall and apply most of the equations and concepts on his own."
"Today the student and I covered DNA replication, protein synthesis and mutations. We went through the steps of both processes, some terminology, and then we went over the different kinds and causes of mutations. She did well with everything; it's just been some time since she has covered DNA replication and protein synthesis, so it was good to review. I gave a mini pop quiz at the end of the session and she got an A! She definitely thinks on the right track, so I think that kind of thinking will help her on the exam. The notes I last sent out covered this information too, but I plan to send some more animations of DNA replication and protein synthesis. I'm sure she will do well on her test this Tuesday!"
