Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We had a good session just going over the material for the student's class. We covered the federal judicial system. He was very attentive and took notes. He is a very smart kid, and I think a good student. He told me he got a B on his most recent test, which is an improvement from when we started. He asks important questions about how to study better. He seems to be on the right track."
"The student went through her study guide and found areas where she was uncertain or could not find information. We went over those areas to make sure that there was a certain level of understanding prior to the more robust study session. We discussed the overarching theme of the events on the test so she could understand how all of the pieces fit together. We also went over study tactics for approaching the completion section of the test that she's had problems with. Making sure that all of the main points of concern that could be used as questions were covered. She will prepare her study notes in a way that allows her to understand each person and event and find a way to recall that information for the test."
"Today's session was largely focused on checking the student's comprehension of two texts. Pericles' "Funeral Oration" took us about an hour to go through, looking for examples of three kinds of freedom. I helped her with the basic comprehension of the language and challenged her interpretations a few times. She didn't come to exactly the same conclusions I did, and may have missed a few things I picked up on, but I didn't want to simply lay everything out for her, and generally she was seeing what I'd seen. She ran her idea for her essay's organization past me, and I approved. Next week we will probably concentrate most heavily on her essay."
