"We covered chapter reading and worked on vocabulary. We defined the parameters of his second piece of writing for me. All went VERY well. He is a great student and I have high hopes for him."
"The student and I went over her vocabulary words, sentences and definitions. She is progressing very well and was proud of herself."
"The current English assignment is to describe a 'Personal Struggle'. The student had already written a draft with some good ideas. He explained why it was hard to move to his current home from Florida. He admitted his schoolwork so far has included little formal training in proper English grammar. We invoked the grammar checker in MS Word, where I showed him how to use it to the best advantage. In his draft, we went over certain phrases that were wordy, but didn't add meaning, marking them for deletion. More important, I urged him to put in more detail that only he could describe, such as his dog's name and the types of toys he had to leave behind during his move. Reaching assignment length should be by adding good content. I also emphasized how each paragraph should deal with a single topic or idea, following a reasonable sequence. The point is always to make the reader understand clearly what the writer wants to convey. Based on all this, he modified his draft, and will do some further revisions along the same lines we discussed. Then he'll do a final spell- and grammar-checking session before finishing and submitting his essay."
