"We went through the Reading section of the second ACT practice test. I had the student outline an essay for the essay topic of section 2 ,and I gave him tips on how to format the essay, including an introductory paragraph consisting of an intro statement and a thesis, along with having concise thoughts when planning out the whole essay. I told him to try and see if he can borrow a copy of the ACT book for the English section, as I found it to have good examples. We went through the practice questions in the section before the main practice tests, which cover general topics that will be on the ACT per subject. He completed the English section and the Math section of the pretests. I told the student to have section 2 done by next Thursday."
"We went over ACT Math and English. I taught her some tricks she could use: most polygons are the sum of other smaller polygons, the fundamental counting principle, etc. We also looked at some videos regarding common idiomatic phrases that pop up in the ACT."
"This was my first time meeting the student! Her father wants her to start working on reading comprehension and writing skills for the SAT. I decided to go over some practice problems with her just to get a good sense of where she was with vocabulary words and how challenging practice problems were for her at this time. Because she's only in 8th grade, the practice problems with more than basic vocab were challenging, so I will find ways to work with her on vocabulary starting now. She also had trouble with general contextual comprehension, which is something we'll begin to work on as well!"
