"Today we drafted the student's Spanish project together and I proofread it before I left. All he has to do is type it up and add pictures. He needs to make sure that he practices presenting it before he has to give the presentation in class. It will make him feel more confident and comfortable, prevent speaking errors, and help with his pronunciation. While he understood all of the grammar and vocabulary that we used, he still needs lots of practice using it in spoken form.
We spent an extra 15 minutes looking at the info his teachers have handed out about the midterms. We discussed what he feels like he needs the most help with and I gave him suggestions on how to study this week before our sessions next weekend.
I enjoyed working with him and look forward to seeing him again. "

"Today we worked on science and history. Because the student said that history is one of his better subjects, we focused primarily on science. His science teacher gave him a gargantuan review sheet with a large essay prompt. So, we crafted a detailed outline to ensure that his essay would stand above the rest. Also, we isolated weak areas and review them. All in all, we spent about an hr on science and 30 min on history."
"First, we worked on two pages of spelling homework. Then she wrote a letter to Santa, which was also homework. She is still having trouble attaching the sound of letter combinations like "ir" in "girl." She read one of her books to me very well with good word recognition."
"The student has her chemistry final this week and received a large, comprehensive review packet. She completed some of it on her own, but we spent the session going over the material she wanted to relearn. The topics included reactions (identifying, predicting products, labeling, etc.), ions, molarity, density, naming elements/compounds, phase changes, and Lewis dot structures. Overall, she is doing well. She seems to have a good handle on the material, especially once you give her an example to help her recall what to do."
"We mostly worked on the student's issues with brainstorming writing ideas. I was able to show her new tricks to help with that. At the end of the session she had said she learned many new things she had not known about writing."
"Student requested review of material for upcoming final exams. Topics included, but not limited to: * Review of solving singlevariable linear equations. * Trigonometric ratios and their various definitions. * Vectors (components, addition, and values) This is the last session between this student and myself for this semester. Since our first session together, a lot of material was covered in a very short amount of time. During each session, student has taken notes, asked questions, and attempted to understand the intuitions behind the steps of each solution. I am hopeful that this next week will be a positive experience as the end of the semester."
"The student and I covered more telling time problems. She has a solid grasp of telling time, but she is less familiar with the phrases quarter of, half past, etc. We also did some subtraction fast facts and played a math facts game. We did two place value review problems."
"The student was working on problem sets for his online math class. It's been a few years since his last math class, so he was having issues here and there recalling algebra topics. His problem sets are due at the end of November, so with Thanksgiving coming up next week, we decided to do a marathon session to cover as much of the material as possible. We worked through solving systems of equations, graphing inequalities, quadratic equations, matrices, arithmetic and geometric series. He was able to easily understand my explanations of the topics, so after an example or two for a given concept, we'd move along to the next. He should have no trouble finishing the rest of his problems."
"The student has an exam on Friday covering properties of circles, so we reviewed and corrected his quizzes from the unit, then went through his notes, and I gave him practice problems to solve. We also got all of his papers from all of his classes into his binder, and I gave him some guidelines on how to better organize it."
"The student has exams in both trig and chemistry tomorrow, so we split the time to review for each exam. I recommended some questions and some reading for him to do to help shore up some of the concepts that will be addressed on the exam. We are not planning on meeting tomorrow since he is unlikely to have any assignments tomorrow."
"Session 1 of SAT review: 6 8 PM, at students home. Her father was present.
During out first SAT review session, we began by discussing the students past scores and areas of strengths and weaknesses. We also discussed her goal, which is to improve her last SAT score by at least 100 points and in what ways this goal could best be accomplished.
After out introductory discussion, we worked specifically on SAT Math. We worked through 2 practice tests, reviewing her math strengths and weakness, discussing strategies related to answer elimination and discussing educated guessing. To close out the session, I gave the student a third T. She will complete this as "homework" and we will review it during our next meeting.
In our next meeting we plan to begin with review and then focus on the Critical Reading component of the SAT. Our second session is scheduled for Wednesday, 9/4, 6:00 8:00 PM."

"Diving into Chapter 10: polar coordinates and parametric curves; understanding how to first convert Cartesian coordinates into polar coordinates and use them to graph nonstandard sinusoidal functions; finished off chapter by discussing how to find arclength of a curve."
