Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We have designed a remedial program that will reinforce the basic algebra skills the student wants to focus on. I have started reviewing linear equations and working with fractions, two of the subjects he wants to go over."
"We reviewed some new material that the student had just covered in class that day. The material included additional ways to evaluate voting systems, and how to estimate a certain voter's power index, based off of how often they are a critical voter in all the available permutations of a vote. She seemed to have a very good grasp on the material, and completing the practice problems seemed to drive the material home. I reviewed a sample problem to provide some clarification for a few of her mistakes, but after that, she was able to solve all of the problems relatively quickly. I'm confident she will do well on the next exam."
"We looked over a review for the student's Algebra 2 test. After just a little bit of practice he had nearly mastered everything on the review."
"Today we went over the basics of probability distributions, definition of distributions and basics of Poisson and binomial distributions. I assigned additional reading to the student as the session came to a close."
"This was our first meeting. We covered the overall structure of the course, as well as some background material. The student's test is on Monday and we will be working on several problem sets. He understands the material well."
"Today we covered probability again. The student has a test on Thursday. She's been working on combinations, permutations, independent events, conditional events, unions, and intersections. We discussed a new set of problems she received from her professor today. She was struggling with the application of some of the tricky concepts. She had a positive attitude towards the material and was eager to learn. In terms of strategies or study skills, I let her know that when dealing with an "at least once" problem, you solve for the conditional first, then subtract from one. I left her with the last word problem from the problem set she received today but we're slated to meet again on Wednesday at 12:45. She once again made progress when it comes to understanding what is going on beyond the mere grunt work of it all."
