Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Used first half of this session to revisit ACT Science. Worked through one sample section together to give the student the most possible practice at efficiently answering questions, using evidence from visual and text sources. As before, the student's performance improved as she got more confident with the questions. We used the remaining time to continue timed practice with ACT Math. The student showed tremendous growth in both problem-solving and time management compared to our first look at the section."
"We discussed the student's performance on his ACT exam. The student scored a cumulative 29, just shy of his goal of 30. We reviewed some reading material through passage-reading and questions."
"The student and I first reviewed her math unit at school at her request. We discussed unit conversion factors and proceeded to complete examples from her math textbook. She completed the factor conversions correctly. Next, we focused on the language section of her assessment test workbook. She nearly completed the section "Punctuation, Usage, and Grammar". She succeeds at identifying run-on or fragment sentences but could use extra practice understanding comma rules, especially when 'who' is used. I advised her to print off comma rules to use as a reference for now. Her biggest challenge with this section was that she is a great reader. Her brain automatically corrects the problem within each question, so she has a difficult time identifying the mistakes. Something we practiced to combat this was reading aloud and using her finger to follow along as she read."
