"We began the session going over 10 diverse and semichallenging SAT math problems which I provided in advance. Following that, the student took two short timed practice quizzes, after which we went over the solutions. We covered mostly algebra word problems and geometry problems involving diagrams. The student knows how to solve the majority of problems."
"We covered the problems from chapter 7 that she's been having a harder time with. This chapter is on discrete, random probabilities. She seemed to have a good understanding of most of it, but just needed some help understanding some of the later equations and problems."

The student and I focused on math covering word problems, variables, proportions and geometry. He seems to understand the concepts during the session while we are covering them. "Longer session because the student will be away next weekend for all state. Began with a review of writing questions/concepts; she got almost every single question correct, and I think this boosted her confidence a bit! We went through the rest of the grammar rules and concepts indepth and finished up with a few phrases to avoid and tricks for spotting wordy or clunky structures. We then moved on to the math, reviewing 5 very tricky problems and the strategy behind each. This was her first introduction to metastrategies like noting question number to estimate difficulty. We moved on through several math concepts (parabolas, special right triangles, etc.) and will pick up from there in two weeks. She will work on a special writing review book she's purchased as well as some of the math that we covered together so far but no practice sections just yet."
"The student had a test in math the next day, so this session we focused on studying for his test. We worked on multiplying, dividing, adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers, as well as when to multiply and when to divide when given a word problem. We went over the basic algebra that will be on the test as well. When we started, he said that the algebra was confusing him a bit, but by the end of our session he was doing great with it. We also reviewed his English homework for the night prepositions. I helped clarify how to recognize a preposition in a sentence, and how to recognize prepositional phrases."
"The first student and I reviewed her spelling words and she then read Junie B. Jones aloud. I encouraged her to keep reading on her own, as she seems to really like the series. We also did more subtraction and multiplication problems.
The second student and I talked a bit about his organizational habits  I emphasized how important a skill this is for life in general. We spent most of the time working on his simple machines playground design. He is clearly very creative and talented visually, which was fun to watch! He is supposed to finish the pencil sketch of the design by Tuesday so that we can go over it in black marker and label the simple machines."

"This was my first session with the student. We worked on converting decimals to fractions and back again. We also worked on calculating fractions of numbers. The student did well and worked hard the whole time."
"I think the student would benefit from making vocab flash cards, so I'm going to bring him a vocab list next week. He is strongest in quantitative skills and weakest in verbal and language skills. I think he just needs more practice, but unfortunately he has already gone through four books of tests, and we're running out of materials."
"The student took a 2nd practice test. She did much better in the quantitative analysis sections (85% up from 25%) and has improved in the 1st section, but we are still working on vocabulary and sentence completions."

We worked on a tough cutting and pasting fraction problem that took him a little bit of time to pick up, but soon after the student was getting the right answers with little to no help!"
