Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Met with the student to go over Geometry before his final exam of the semester. We reviewed the study guide questions provided by his teacher and went over each of the problems. He answered most of the problems correctly and where he had issues or was stuck, I helped him along. He has shown marked improvement over the course of the semester in his geometry skills and is able to solve problems he couldn't tackle before. I showed him tricks in solving Venn Diagram and Logic Problems as well as tough geometry word problems involving the use of complicated variables. He knows his terms well and has gotten down the mechanics. The difficult subject of Algebraic and Geometric proofs, he has learned well. I urged him to review the vocabulary one more time using his flash cards before the exam and to go over the tougher problems again to make sure he will answer them correctly on the exam. "
"Student has her Anthropology mid term tomorrow. We reviewed her key terms and concepts, wrote out answers to the essay questions her professor provided, and created an evolutionary timeline for her to review. She also took the online chapter quizzes that accompany her text book and we reviewed the questions she got incorrect."
"Today we worked on finding percentage increase and decrease. The student seems to be doing really well in understanding the problems. Her grades are improving, and we will be working on helping her avoid small mistakes."
"Thermochemistry, finding the change in enthalpy of a reaction, as well as finding the change in enthalpy of a reaction by combining half reactions. The student was great. He caught on quickly, was attentive and seemed to understand my instruction, and was able to complete sample problems on his own."
"The student worked on publishing his paragraph on going to the movies. He also brainstormed some ideas for his next paragraph. We also read and I used a math assessment to assess what he understands and what he needs to work on still. He knows his place values, can add and subtract multi-digit problems. He needs to work on multiplication concepts and number patterns."
"This session the student and I reviewed a couple logic games on the last practice test she took. We then moved on to logical reasoning, which we hadn't touched at all yet."
"I walked the student through a number of logical reasoning sections practicing strategy. We also went over some reading comprehension passages practicing pacing and attention to detail."
"Went over logic games, practiced and discussed strategies for grouping of rules for in/out and grouping games."
"We made some good progress in this session. The student did a full, timed section of Logical Reasoning Questions as homework. She ended up scoring 19 of 25, which is pretty darn good. We discussed the fact that the first 10 questions in a Logical Reasoning section are usually easier than the last 10, and should be done quicker to save more time for the harder problems. We went over every question in the section and discussed the key words in the questions and answer prompts that will inform answer choices (other than for fill in the blanks, or questions that ask for additional information). We also did some logic games practice and additional flawed reasoning questions. We also discussed basic test strategy, and I gave statistical info on guessing, such as info on which answer choices come up more on particular sections. She will take the remainder of the practice LSAT before our next meeting."
"We are reviewing and practicing linear and complex linear games as well as how to address the various reading comprehension question types."
"We reviewed various logic games, and we did several assumption questions for the logical reasoning section."
"Today we reviewed the sample test the student took since our last session. We also generally discussed strategies for the test, which will take place in one week."
