Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this session, the student and I worked on a number of strategies, most of them for the critical reading section of the SAT. We focused more on this section because as of yesterday, she hadn't had time to take the practice test I had assigned her, but she did know from the PSAT that she struggled most with the critical reading section. We went through some practice problems from each section and discussed strategies as we went, as well. I feel our sessions will be much more beneficial after she has taken a full practice test and really gets a sense of how she can handle the test."
"Scored the critical reading and math sections the student had completed in Test 2, on which she scored 84% and 81% respectively. We corrected her missed problems, practiced questions from each section, and reviewed the test-taking strategies for the SAT as a whole. Although she is taking an SAT tomorrow at school, the student would like to continue meeting twice a week to prepare for the May 7 SAT, which we both feel will be a good idea to take since she'll be much more comfortable with the test material in another few weeks."
"The student and I had a yesterday: If he could successfully conjugate all of the verbs with which he had difficulty, we could work on mostly math and science. However, he did not appear to have a strong grasp of these verbs as we started the session. Thus, we worked on those for about half the session and then shifted to science, since he has a Spanish and a science final tomorrow."
"First we discussed some things that the student could have done differently on her last paper. Then we went over the assignment for Module 5. We discussed methods for determining the legitimacy of various websites, especially in the context of using websites as sources. We discussed the "context" and "content" for each website and article assigned. We also developed an outline for her essay about the strengths and weaknesses of one of the articles we examined."
"The student worked on several exercises on minute math. She worked on review exercises on math. She has greatly improved on her math skills. She also read from a book I had brought. I am trying to get her to slow down and pronounce the words more carefully. Her reading comprehension is good. We will continue to review on math, English, and reading skills this week."
"The student completed her first practice LSAT from her prep book, scoring a 141, meaning there's a lot of work to be done. We used the results to set some goals for right/wrong answers in each section, then we dove into Logic Games once more, working on three games from that practice test together. This allowed us to discuss Sequencing and Grouping games generally, and to reinforce the general method, in particular the sketching techniques and the question order (Acceptability, If, Not-If, Rule Changer). She's going to continue reviewing this test using her prep book and the free videos. She's also going to continue working through her lesson book. If possible, she's also going to take another full length practice exam."
