Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed homework from his geometry class involving geometric proofs and some problems involving algebra applied to calculating certain aspects of a few different shapes. He said that his geometry class was extremely difficult when starting out, but that he is beginning to understand at this point. As we worked through proofs, his logical reasoning was good, and his memory of postulates and theorems was quick. I'm going to work with him on creating more visualizations to begin problems, and to show more explicit work from step to step (he also told me he's a visual learner, when I asked how he learns best)."
"In this session we skipped around topics a bit. We did a lot of different examples, and went into depth on related rates problems. She is very good with the computation questions and doesn't need too much help with the conceptual questions."
"The student and I worked on an assignment over integration by parts. The student's teacher had not explained the process in any detail, so I described and demonstrated it; fortunately, the student picked up the concept quickly as we progressed."
"We went over the definition of vectors, adding vectors, subtracting vectors, scalar multiplication of vectors, and finding the magnitude of vectors. The student did well and we will resume next week."
"I explained to the student how to do Riemann Sums. We also talked about using integrals to determine area under a function and worked a few problems like that. We also discussed some properties of integrals."
"We went through a bunch of review problems on derivatives. It came up during this that the student is a little rusty on working with logs so I talked about them as review. She seemed to be comfortable with her rules for derivatives. We will continue to practice."
