Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we used the front of the book and worked through the practice tests to review common concepts. We reviewed the concept of ratios in general and the types of problems in which ratios apply. Then we practiced using proportions to solve a variety of questions, including questions with triangles, percentages, circle graphs, and part/whole relationships. As we continued with practice test problems, the student relied on proportions much more often and showed a solid understanding of them. Another major topic we covered was sequences (arithmetic and geometric). We practiced finding missing terms in arithmetic sequences and identifying the common ratios in arithmetic sequences. I left the student with a worksheet listing all the main differences between these two types of sequences. We also covered special triangles, for which I left her a worksheet as well. Finally, we worked a little bit from the reading section and derived vocabulary words from it. The student did great!"
"Today the student did a timed math section. She is hitting the right rhythm with skipping questions and answering the questions she knows how to do. She did a great job minimizing incorrect answers and maximizing her score. The student also did a reading section. Her vocabulary skills are definitely solid and her reading comprehension is good. She understood the reading she had. She has improved significantly since the first sessions and I am confident she can still achieve more with some extra effort."
"Today, I had the student complete a critical reading passage with questions and also complete free response questions to the math section. I also made flashcards for her and assigned them to her for homework to improve her vocabulary."
