Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session we went over a Verbal section and covered some basic grammar rules. The student did fairly well, but was unfamiliar with a couple of the rules. I assigned a couple sections for him to do as homework between our sessions to rectify this. Overall I'm happy with our progress. My plan for next session is to begin timed sections to get him familiar with managing his time during the test."
"The student and I went through the writing and verbal sections today to identify weaknesses, if any. He is generally very strong, his large vocabulary serving him well, and most questions he can analyze. The typical hard questions, ones involving the 'best' interpretation, etc., are still occasionally giving him pause. We'll do some work on those, but in general he is strong enough on the verbal that we'll spend most of our time on math."
"We covered problem sets in reading and in English. The student grasps concepts and author's intent well but is often caught off-guard by metaphorical imagery (even natural science writers use fanciful language!). For English problems, I would advise him to read each possibility, i.e. the whole sentence with all 4 answer choices substituted, to determine the answer, since he almost always got the correct answer when I read each answer possibility aloud inside the complete sentence."
