Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we focused on resistors, currents, and circuits. Especially circuit analysis tools. The student had some initial trouble at the beginning figuring out which equation to use but seemed to understand the process by the end."
"On Sunday with the student we worked on her Atmospheric Sciences 170 class, and her English 102 class. She has her Math 100 final this week, so she has been working on studying for that the last few days. Her next English paper has been assigned, so we did some research on what would make a good controversy analysis topic- we decided on doing universal healthcare, and wrote a potential thesis for her class on Wednesday. We also went through 3 lectures for Atmospheric Sciences, and completed a quiz for that class. She does not have any major grades back for English, but she is doing very well in Atmospheric Sciences. She had another small English assignment that was just a homework assignment, but because it required watching an hour long video she decided to do it with a friend who is also in her class."
"Prepared for chemistry test on gas laws. Covered Boyle's, Charles', Gay-Lussac's, Avogadro's and Ideal Gas Law and Kinetic Theory of Gases. Practiced problems using Gas Law for density calculations and Dalton's Law of partial pressures/molarity. Reviewed stoichiometry rxns and finding amounts of products and reactants using gas laws. Assigned remaining problems on practice test."
"The student and I worked on Spanish for about 45 minutes, mostly getting ready for an upcoming test. We studied reflexive verbs, related vocabulary, and spelling and accents. Then, we worked out sample questions. For the rest of the session, we reviewed his latest math topic: coordinate geometry. We reviewed and worked through problems dealing with translations of points and figures using "vector" rules, reflections across the x- and y-axes, as well as the lines y=x and y=-x. We also worked on rotations about the origin and how they relate to reflections. We also worked on the cumulative effect of two or more translations and reflections. I think he has a solid grasp of the concepts and how to apply them, maybe to a greater degree at this stage than he had for transformation geometry in the previous unit. He showed great interest, patience, and effort in the session, which is a pleasure to work with."
"The student came much more prepared for our session, having reviewed the practice exam prior to meeting. We were able to address trouble areas and spend more time talking through concepts rather than just working homework problems. Her exam is Wednesday, so I hope this format helps her perform a little better."
"The student was ready to start when I arrived; thank you. We continued with thermochemical stoichiometry. She has a good grasp of the principles behind the factor-label method, and showed improvement during the session. We focused on her learning the process and she demonstrated mastery of the concept. She will benefit from further practice which she will get from her anticipated class review."
