Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on the student's summer packet. She is starting to solve multi-step inequalities in one variable."
"The student worked on word problems. He has the ability to do the problems in his head. We discussed the importance of showing his work for his teachers. Excellent session."
"Today we covered various aspects of matrices. He did not get to do his homework from the previous day. We are set to meet tomorrow at 10:30."
"Today the student worked through his homework. They have started doing multiplication of fractions, so most of the work focused on this, using different methods. He did pretty well when using the generic rectangles, and multiplying straight across. We did some fraction review, drawing some diagrams. We did one long more challenging problem where he had to find the area of 3 different rectangles that had fractions for dimensions. I had him work through it slowly, step by step. We also did a problem where we had to enlarge a figure based on a given ration. he really struggled with this, as he has in the past. I will make a point to practice this on our session on Friday."
"The student and I worked on a broad range of math skills as I assessed her levels and needs. She seems to be strong in adding and subtracting decimals as well as comprehending word problems related to money and making change. We reviewed positive and negative integers with decimals. We started with improper fractions and mixed numbers, and we will ease into this again next session. She is a hard worker but lacks confidence, so I want to make sure she has a solid foundation as we move forward."
"The student proudly announced that she had once again made the "A" Honor Roll for this 9 weeks. She had even raised her math average by one point. She said she was having a little trouble with multiplying fractions. We discussed how to multiply them and then she worked on her homework, which dealt with subtracting fractions. We discussed setting up a practice for the state assessment test beginning in March. She then analyzed a lengthy poem which she beautifully read aloud. She has really learned how to read poetry for enjoyment as well as for homework."
