Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered preterit tense verbs, verb conjugations and vocabulary. The student needed to practice more conjugations and past tense verbs. She always maintained a positive attitude towards the material being covered. Visual material and examples were presented. She is very intelligent and picked up the concepts real fast."
"Today we reviewed some new material that the student will be quizzed on this coming Monday. It is the imperfect tense. She has this stuff down! She even remembers all the accents. She is good at memorizing new rules. We also spent some time reviewing the use of the verb gustar and then we applied the imperfect tense to it. Today was a great session, and she seems ready for her quiz."
"This session was a review of what we learned last time, to reinforce the material as well as the addition of feelings, numbers up to 50, and an introduction to la/el/las/los and also ser/estar. We primarily focused on how to express 3 basic feelings, in the yo/tu/el/ella conjugations. This also incorporates the use of ser vs estar and was an introductory lesson to basic verb conjugation. Student A is learning rapidly and doing well retaining information. Student B is having a little difficulty remembering the vocabulary, so we must spend a bit more time reviewing during our sessions. Both students are eager to learn. We will incorporate more hands-on activities in the future. Today we played charades in Spanish to help practice with the vocabulary we learned today."
"We met and talked about the student's Spanish goals. He wants to focus on speaking and vocabulary that he can use on the construction sites where he is a supervisor. We translated some phrases that he wanted to be able to say. I asked some questions that would help me determine what book to recommend he buy. We looked at some construction terms."
"During this session, I reviewed the student's homework with him. He did well in the oral exercise but had some difficulty with differentiating between the preterite and imperfect tense. I will review those tenses with him once we are finished with articles. After that, we reviewed the written exercises. This included chapter 9 from the Spanish grammar book and 13 and some of 14 from the Spanish grammar drills book. He did well in these exercises, but had some difficulty with exercise 13. For homework, I asked him to complete chapter 10-11 exercises and to prepare for an oral exercise."
"Today, we covered grammar and pronunciation. I had the student read lists of vocabulary words and use them in sentences. We also looked at past tense regular and irregular verbs. I had her read paragraphs and then repeat words that she pronounced incorrectly. We practiced some simple conversation, and I taught her three common sayings in English, including "I'm sorry to hear that," "What a shame that," and "I think that you should." I had her make sentences with these sayings. Overall, she was really on top of things today and showed improvement through attention to the lesson and practicing."
