Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student took a diagnostic test before this session. We went over the questions he wanted to go over on the Math section. He has a good grasp of the material. We talked about being mindful of time and knowing when to skip a hard problem or a guess. We talked about relaxation techniques and pacing as well. With a bit more test taking practice he should be able to make good progress with his math score."
"I had my first session with the student yesterday and it went well. He hasn't taken any practice tests, but he felt comfortable when he took the PSAT. He feels better about the math than any of the writing or reading and is most worried about his grammar. I will be sending him a pdf of a series of grammar exercises to work through in the month before the exam. We talked about general exam strategies, the breakdown of the sections, and the format of the essay before starting to practice things in the prep book. We got through practice on the 3 types of questions in the Writing section. Of the three, he had the most trouble with identification of errors in a sentence, so we will focus on that in the coming sessions. I asked him to try and complete as much of the first practice test for next meeting so that we can identify additional parts to focus on in future sessions."
"Today we did a little bit of each section, in the order of appearance on the exam. The student did fantastic with English, so we did a quick review. For the math review, I pulled 15 problems from online that represented some of the material that the student worked on. I honestly believe he is in good shape! We finished with science and reading he did well with a tough reading passage. We went over the idea of finding specific things in the text to support an answer, and looking for quick, easy questions to answer in a time crunch. He finished strong with a science section as well. I think he is in great shape for tomorrow, and has put in a lot of hard work during our sessions together."
