Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"To better analyze the student's strengths and learning needs, I started this session by implementing a Language section from the placement test. While he was not able to always explain the grammar rules tested, he was consistently able to detect errors and improve problematic sentences. His language abilities seem to be at least at-level, if not higher. I then presented the student with an adjusted ACT writing prompt as an activity to (1) practice formal outlining and (2) analyze his composition abilities. I continued to observe good higher reasoning and logic. I finished by examining the student's Language Arts grades from the previous quarter, which showed above-average scores on each component of his research paper assignment. Next session (6/11) will continue our work with composition, while also focusing on planning a research project."
"We discussed the student's academic goals. I created lesson plans for future tutoring sessions. We discussed the writing process and I began assessment of the student's writing ability."
"The student wrote a persuasive essay about the usefulness of cellphones for middle school students. We worked on writing stronger topic sentences, incorporating examples, and cutting repetition. Her new assignment is to argue the danger of cellphones for middle school students."
