Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This week the student is taking the assessment test for the first time. During tutoring we focused on the math section of the assessment test and went through a practice test together. We then looked at his assignments for his new English class and talked about the literature he would be reading."
"The student and I worked on her college admissions essays. Overall, the student's essays are strong, and we've been primarily focusing ourselves on content development, making sure that she presents a unique and refreshing take to the prompt as well as ensuring that she addresses all of the prompt's requirements. "
"We spent equal time on math and reading, making sure the student was able to pace himself well. On the reading section, we figured out that it was to his benefit to read the entire passage through without worrying about time constraints and without trying to speed read. We finished up with a review of combinatorics."
"The student is taking her first ACT on Saturday. She feels good about the math portion, and is most worried about English. With that in mind, I taught her some strategies for taking the English test, and we went over some punctuation/grammar rules. Next, we focused on science. We went through the three different types of science formats and talked about strategies for each. We also worked on drawing conclusions from the graphs and anticipating what the questions will be. Finally, we talked about general test taking strategies (get plenty of rest, eat a normal breakfast, etc.) and a study plan for the week."
"Saturday we worked on the essay, verbal reasoning, and reading comprehension. The student improved on the essay. I think he is in a good position right now. In our last session we will work on solidifying math concepts. We will also work on the essay."
"We translated some more materials today. We have practiced a lot with the sentence structure. The student is now very aware of little mistakes in pronunciation and making an effort to pronounce more accurately. I asked the student to practice more with the sentence structure and take notes. I can see he is very motivated to learn."
