Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over antiderivatives and more of Riemann Sums. We also worked on definite integrals and covered some of the review assigned by her professor for her upcoming exam."
"We covered the student's homework on implicit differentiation and related rates. Then we began to cover exponential growth."
"Today was my first session with the student. We initially spent some time discussing where calculus fit into his scholastic plans overall. He is mostly interested in going to college for business or politics, neither of which will be terribly math intensive. With that in mind, we decided that our goals should primarily be to maximize his grade in this class rather than work on a solid foundation of conceptual understanding. We looked over all the material that had been covered to date and briefly discussed the student's comfort level with each topic. He does not seem to be struggling with any particular topic and just needs more practice with them. There is a test in this class on Friday, so we focused the remainder of our session on the topics that will appear on the test. We began with implicit differentiation, working several practice problems and discussing basic strategy, before moving on to related rates. I recommended that he practice the material we covered today, and we scheduled a second session for this Thursday."
"The student and I focused our session on the factoring skills that she learned this week. She is far better at this skill than she thought she was. She thinks that rational expressions, this week's topic, will give her problems. We walked through her homework and several other factoring questions, and I am confident that she will be able to handle factoring questions."
"We covered scientific notation, fractions, exponents, percentage and discounts. He struggled the most with scientific notation and exponents, but he's still great with percentage calculations, and even though he didn't see scientific notation and exponents law once we review them he understood pretty well."
"The student and I spent the time prepping for his upcoming final. Depending on the assignments given by his teacher we may meet again this weekend, but I think the student has a good handle on the material. He needs to just work slowly and carefully and go over his answers when he is done. I spoke with the parent after our session and gave a few practice problems with an answer key for the student to do."
