Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We finished our review of the algebra concepts we had been going through. We then proceeded to work on understanding his current geometry material. Although it was something we had previously discussed he struggled with forming and graphing equations. At the end of the hour he was much more accustomed to proper techniques. Once he goes through the steps in his head it is much easier."
"Today we covered another 4 chapters for the EOCT exam related to circles, geometric shapes, exponents, and simplifying rational numbers and irrational expressions. Today 2 of the chapters had 10-12 sections, so a considerable amount of material was covered in the time frame. Of the initial 18 chapters set out to review for this state-administered EOCT geometric exam, 16 chapters were explicitly covered in detail during our sessions (along with separate review of polynomials and quadratic equations for in-class retakes). The remaining 2 chapters are short and related to material that was covered in class. In the interest of time, the other 4 chapters were focused on during this session. Overall, I feel the student is very capable of doing well on this exam. I feel the student will be able to leave the exam confident, knowing he was well prepared."
"We went over a bit of Chemistry, looking at types of radiation and their notation. The student had a pretty good grasp of this, however, so we shifted to Geometry and worked on drawing the nets of polyhedrons. She had some difficulty visualizing a 3D object unfolded onto a 2D surface, so she got scissors and cut out nets from a worksheet she had from class. We looked at how they folded together, and this helped her. The next step is calculating the surface areas of these nets."
"We covered circles and theorems of circles. The student has covered this in class already, so we were mostly looking at ways to approach the questions. This included how to begin the questions and how to apply the theorems that we know to solve the problems."
"I met the student for the first time today, and I helped her with her homework on the Pythagorean theorem. She needed some work on simplifying her square roots, so I wrote up a few practice problems for her to do by Wednesday. She has a final in a few weeks, and she would like to bring her average grade up to an A after the test. We will meet twice a week until then to make sure she has covered all the material. To begin with, we will go over her previous test next Wednesday and make sure she is up to speed on her homework."
"I assisted the student with her geometry homework, which consisted of identifying whether two triangles are congruent and if they are, by what postulates and theorems they are congruent. I checked all of her homework and ensured that she had the correct answers. I made sure that she understood how to write two-column proofs and pointed out the errors she made, explaining how she could correct them."
