Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Reviewed independently completed essay and critical reading section. Practiced more reading and writing passages, noting what to look for and how to eliminate answers. Will be continuing practice on this. Also began reviewing math concepts to practice further throughout next week"
"Today the student and I finished his homework. He is now having to conjugate many complex stem-changing verbs. He did a great job in his homework, only forgetting to add several possessive pronouns. Next, we practiced conjugating the stem changing verbs. He said that this is what he needs the most work on, so I suggested he practice writing them all before his test next Monday. After that I quizzed the student on verbs. I said one in English and he had to write it in Spanish, write the 'yo' form and use it in a sentence. Last of all, we did a conversational exercise from his textbook. The student is making progress and will do great on the test. "
"Yesterday the student and I reviewed the practice Math test he took. He seems to be doing better with the material. Most of his mistakes were little errors like misreading the sign of something. I told him to slow down and make sure he writes everything out so he can see what he is doing and pick up on a mistake. Then we went through a timed Science practice test. His intuition for the test was pretty spot on. I explained to him that the questions that seem confusing with very detailed scientific answers which appear to rely on the knowledge of chemistry are most likely incorrect as the test is meant to test data analysis and comprehension rather than actual knowledge of Physics, Chemistry, or Biology. I recommended that he try another timed science practice test before we meet today so I can see how he fares without me there."
"It was our first session. He knows Spanish. He is at a good level but the problems come from grammar, fluency, and comprehension when natives speak too fast. We started reviewing grammar from the basics. We advance quickly when he shows me understanding and we go deeper. If not, we discuss all the grammar he knows. He is set to increase his proficiency every day."
"We began the students Spanish Project, which is in leu of a test. It must cover the preterit and imperfect and involve some sort of media. The student decided to do a timeline so we made an outline of all the major events in her life. I helped her write paragraphs about these events, and collect photos for the timeline. Mom and the student will finish the timeline this weekend."
"The student worked on her assignments for Spanish class. She did finish all her homework, which was about 7-8 exercises. After that, we reviewed a previous quiz she had, went over the wrong answers, and discussed the correct answers."
