Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student continues to be motivated and eager to complete work. During this session, he completed his science homework. We also began reading a book out loud. This text includes math problems. I introduced a mathematics activity called SETS which involves identifying patterns. Moving forward, we will do more math facts and read aloud from books he would like to read. Next session will be on Tuesday."
"Worked on writing and math homework. The student did really well on his math, reading each problem carefully and choosing the right equations to use. Also worked much harder on his writing assignment, coming up with more complex sentences and using words that we've learned together."
"Today we had a great session. We went over the overall format of the test. Next, we began with the math section since that is her "weakness". She had a good grasp on most concepts and only needed to review the scientific notation, algebraic expressions, and word problems. Then we did some synonym and fill-in-the-blank questions. We made note of new vocabulary and looked up tricky words in the dictionary. For reading comprehension we went over strategies and did some practice drills. Overall, we had a very productive session. She is going to take a practice test and we will review it on Saturday."
"Went over vector properties; definition of dot product, addition, orthogonality, parallel vectors, and word problems using vectors. He seems to be coming into the sessions with a half understanding of the concepts, and some ability to compute certain types of problems. I set him up with a practice schedule based off of his study guide."
"The student took her geometry test today and tomorrow is her chemistry exam. Together, we worked on the Chapter 12 review problems. I had her first work on the limiting reagent and percent yield questions, as those were the concepts she had the most difficulty with in past sessions and on her last quiz. We then went back and did other stoichiometry practice problems. I hope that her hard work pays off tomorrow."
"With student one we first reviewed the materials from previous sessions to refresh and review things. The new phrase for today is: "please give me a glass of water", the homework is to write: "my birthday is ...." 5 times. For student two, we first reviewed numbers 1 to 10, her memory is getting better and better, then we did "body parts" games with an added "head". then we learned numbers 11 to 20. we also reviewed the vocab from last session. finally we learned how to say and write new vocab: bug, big and small. homework is to finish the worksheet."
"Discussed book report plan and upcoming test content. Exercised fluency via oral presentation using new story from class with vocabulary that will be on his test next week. Also worked on tones and pronunciation."
"Went over Ch. 7. Exposed the student to new vocabulary, new grammar structures, and complex wordings. Also went over various cultural aspects of technology."
