Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went over factoring quadratic equations. We did a bunch of practice problems and reviewed some common patterns. Over all, it required a lot of guess and check using factors. I think she might struggle most with finding factors quickly without using a calculator rather than the actual process/method of factoring. She is really good at the FOIL method and distributing."
"The student and I began working on her Spanish coursework. She is having difficulty with the preterite and imperfect tenses - both when to use them and how to conjugate various verbs. We practiced conjugating regular and irregular verbs with both of these endings, and discussed the scenarios when each verb form is most commonly used. We also created a list of verbs she needs to practice conjugating before our next session."
"The student and I worked on a previous test. She had little problem doing the corrections. After math, we studied her science on the periodic table and elements. She had good knowledge of most of the content and quickly caught on to the rest. By the end of the session, she was answering all the questions correctly on the first try."
"This was my last session with the student and she will be taking the re-scheduled test on Saturday. We spent most of our time today reviewing writing sections. I think that she has gotten much better in this area since the last test. She also did exceptionally well on the reading sections that we reviewed today. It has been a pleasure to work with her!"
"The student did a few short question (logical reasoning) sections of old LSATs and we went through each one, both the ones she got and the ones she missed. We spent some time on a few common logical fallacies, covered the differences between deductive and inductive reasoning, and spent considerable time on a few good teaching examples of anatomy-of-the-reasoning and point/counterpoint problems."
"The student was able to complete three sections (1 logic games and 2 logical reasoning). We used those to continue our discussion of question typing--which he's improving at by leaps and bounds. We discussed a few individual question/ argument patterns, and briefly ran through a logic game. He's going to review the logic games section with some materials I sent him and try to take another practice exam before we meet again."
