Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on simplifying complex numbers and the FOIL method of multiplying two expressions. I am confident that she will perform well on her assessment."
"We looked at a number of vocabulary terms and concepts that are likely to be covered the first week in class."
"We discussed more 2 column proofs as well as the basics of elementary logic (converse, inverse, contrapositive). After working through the problems in his homework, I quizzed him on the theory and he absorbed it adequately. We then talked about being prepared to study for and upcoming quiz and working on his ecology work on Thursday."
"The student worked on a C problem today. We also reviewed solving problems using the formula for sum of interior angles, identifying congruent angles in transversals, and using knowledge about triangles to find angle measurements. Overall, the session went well and the student was engaged. It was a good session."
"Todays session with the student went really well. We reviewed his unfinished homework from this and last week (chapter 7 - similarities). It was good to work on and because he was probably going to have an exam on Thursday covering that material. I have noticed that he is getting better with a lot of different types of problems that he had trouble with earlier. This is probably due to us making him complete a lot of extra work, and it is finally sinking in, which is great. I showed him several ways of working with the similarity problems so that if one way didn't make sense, he could try and use another."
"The student is going to retake her chapter 7 test over quadrilaterals tomorrow before school. I was able to get a copy of her test from her teacher so we could go over it. She scored a 63 on it which was just below the class average. She lost a majority of her points on using coordinates to prove the shape. We went over her mistakes, and she worked two new problems like them from her retake review. At first, she needed help with what information is needed to prove each type of shape. She has had trouble retaining this for quizzes and tests. She was able to do most of the formulas correctly. She made a few algebra mistakes, but she was able to work through the problems. We also went over a few other mistakes she made with rhombuses and kites from her test. I made up a couple questions similar that she was able to work through successfully. By the end of the session, she seemed to have caught on."
