Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I continued to make progress on the reading and writing sections of the test. For writing, we continue to learn new rules that help her. For reading, we just need to keep practicing. I assigned her 3 sections for homework (2 reading, 1 writing)."
"For the student's first lesson, we concentrated our focus on math and did some practice exercises. She has a very strong algebra mind and is a good abstract thinker as well. We reviewed some areas of math she has less familiarity with, such as sets, complex expressions involving radicals, and inverse equations. She catches on quickly but is also good at using trial and error and weighing answer choices rather than making rash decisions. Since her PSAT did not include an essay section, I assigned her a variety of writing prompts to try writing a practice response to, which we will review at our session next Sunday."
"The student and I started our session by doing a sample correcting paragraphs question set. We will continue to work with these questions in the future. We then turned to a quick discussion of the essay. She has scored high on previous sample essays (a 10 and an 11 out of 12), so we are not focusing too much on the essay. We then started our critical reading review. We went through the material on sentence completion / vocabulary questions. She know has a solid grasp of the strategy to employ on these questions. We will continue studying her vocabulary to ultimately improve her score on this question type. Next time we will turn to reading comprehension."
