Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I got ahead on the book and started doing some algebraic equations and practicing them. We also got to ask some review questions about the book he read at school."
"The student worked on absolute value inequalities, reference and coterminal angles, and amplitude, frequency, and period of sinusoidal functions."
"The student and I worked on some math homework together, covering distributive property and expanded form. He said he had seen expanded form before, but he hadn't really worked on distributive property yet. We went over a few problems together, and he picked up on the material quickly and was able to complete the problems mostly by himself towards the end of our session. He had a great attitude towards learning this new math, and he seemed to grow in confidence as we went on. We had a great tutoring session, and I look forward to working with him again!"
"First, we reviewed the students math homework. Student 1 initially struggled a bit on finding the patterns using inputs and outputs but began to do better by the end of the session. Then, we worked on science. The boys were inventing new objects by putting two other objects together."
"We spent all of our time on some more complicated trig substitutions, how to determine the coefficients in front of them, and how to simplify. The problem is that the student has been taught how to memorize complicated integrals rather than understanding them, so as soon as a couple of coefficients are thrown, in she doesn't know how to deal with them. We broke things down and focused on understanding the integrals. We also went over changing the bounds of an integral after a variable shift. Sometimes you cannot shift back, especially when dealing with trig substitutions, so a bounds shift is necessary. I showed her the chart I use for shifts."
"Today we continued to go over functions and graphs. We went over transformations of graphs, including horizontal and vertical shifts, and horizontal and vertical compressions and expansions. We also did some applications of functions, which included setting up functions for word problems."
