Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session, we covered areas of a sector and arc length. The student had the general understanding of how to solve geometric problems. She had a positive attitude toward the material, and by the end of the session, she felt prepared for her upcoming class. During this session, we utilized practice problems from the database as well as worked on her assignment."
"The student is learning how to solve for areas of regular polygons using the basic formula A=(1/2)ap. I explained how that formula is derived, and also showed her a few other more advanced formulas to help explain the concept more completely, then looked at her worksheet examples. After going over a few problems, I asked her to show me a problem that the teacher solved in class, and explain it to me step-by-step to show if she understands. I then explained it back to her with a picture and I think it helped clarify the solution. We went back to the worksheet, and finished all but the last 3 problems, which I told her to try on her own, and she can email me if she needs to confirm the answers she gets. She did very well answering questions and gave a good effort trying to solve problems even when she was unsure. I see her confidence returning!"
"The student completed problems 2 to 19, the even numbers, as we previously did 1 to 19, odd numbers. Topics included circles, central angles, inscribed angles, chords, diameters, radii, and related theorems. Reviewed all the important theorems and postulates that the student has to know. The exercises were meant to help the student learn, understand, and apply the theorems and postulates."
"The student and I went through the sections on duplicate and bisect angles as well as segments and length. She did the self-assessments on them and we will meet again in two weeks."
"The student and I covered circular geometry including secant, tangent, and chord lengths. We covered how the exterior angles formed are closely related to the measurements of the interior angles. I feel she has a very firm grasp of this material and is doing well. For practice, I'd suggest continuing to work on her in-class handouts."
"Primarily the student and I focused on review of transformation forms. This also included the notion of overlay and mixed transformations (multi reflection and rotation). This also meant we needed to apply all transformations in a coordinate context. He did fantastic, really hunkered down and knew his stuff. He had some issues with the notion of overlay but not as much as before. We also discussed ways of rethinking transformations and how everything in some way was a version of reflection across differently angled lines. I left him pages which needed review, but overall he was fine and needed little practice. His attitude and progress within this session was a big win."
