Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I finished our grammar concept review. We then reviewed strategies for the paragraph correction questions, which we will continue to practice next session, as she had some difficulty with this question type on the PSAT. Next session, we will focus on the essay and begin our critical reading skills review."
"The student continues to improve in all sections. She had her best individual math section yet, getting 18 correct and only 2 incorrect. She is becoming quite consistent in the reading and writing sections, earning the equivalent of a 600 scaled score. As always, she completes her homework and is attentive and enthusiastic during sessions."
"Today we covered most of the errors found on the identifying sentence errors part of the writing multiple choice section, such as noun-verb agreement, faulty parallelism, incomplete comparisons, pronouns agreement issues, and verb tenses. She was very quick to pick up all of these types of issues from what I have observed doing practice questions with her. She did have some initial issues with finding the subject of the sentence, but she improved quite a bit after I showed her how to remove/ignore the prepositional phrases and interrupting fragments of the sentence to get at the barebones of the sentence structure. The other minor issue that came up was her confusing gerunds (ex. skiing, throwing, walking, etc.) as the verb of the sentence, to which I've explained that gerunds aren't actually verbs and the actually verb is the linking verb preceding the gerund (is/was, had/have been, etc.). I left her with around 50 or so practice problems to complete before our next session."
