Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over graphing functions using vertex and various points. It was the initial session so we discussed his goals for the course as well."
"We covered mainly trigonometric concepts. This includes, but is not limited to, trigonometric functions (sin(x), cos(x), tan(x), etc.), trigonometric identities, word problems, radians and degrees, arc length, graphing trigonometric functions, and the like. The student had some tests/quizzes she had taken recently. There were simple mistakes made on her quizzes/tests, but with repetition and tutoring, I am sure she will improve. She said she does not do well on quizzes/tests, but with tutoring, our goal is that she will improve, learn, and perform well in her class. During the hour of tutoring, she seemed very receptive, and I asked throughout if she understood what I was teaching. We also went over the questions she got wrong on her quizzes/tests."
"The student was working on more graphs and transformations of graphs. She needed help with the order of the transformations but overall it went pretty well. She also had some chemistry homework with equilibrium and how to work it. She overall had the concept but had a couple of questions on how to apply it properly."
"Today, the student's dad gave me a copy of his most recent test that the student got a 68 on. I went over all 25 questions with him to see where he had the most trouble. Prime factorization is a bit tough for him, especially when he needs to find the square root of a large number using prime factorization. Also, finding the square roots of numbers with exponents is tough for him. I taught him that when you need to find the square root of a number with exponents, the base number stays the same and you divide the exponent by two. One more thing that I noticed is that he sometimes takes a proper fraction and turns it into a mixed number. We went over what a proper and improper fraction look like. He did really well with the geometry questions on the test, along with adding and subtracting mixed numbers and finding the unknown number in an equation."
"This week, the student wanted to start studying for her finals in math and physics. In math, we went back and did a few practice problems involving solving trig equations using various identities and formulas. She did well with this, but we will definitely continue to practice. These can be tough problems. In physics, she wanted to review force diagram problems more in depth. We had a hard time finding practice problems that seemed to fit in with what her teacher does in class, so for future sessions, the student will email me what she has done in class ahead of time so I can find appropriate practice."
"The student and I worked on various pre-calculus topics varying from derivatives, sequences, trig identities, law of sines, area of a triangle, and the unit circle. I was able to pick up on some of her weaknesses and we will review those topics again in our session on Tuesday. The student did very well with the sequences and the derivatives."
