Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today's session was used to discuss glycolysis and gluconeogenesis, and how these two metabolic pathways oppose each other in terms of products and enzymes which catalyze the processes. We also had the opportunity to discuss the types of enzymes and how they catalyze the detailed steps of both processes. We finished by seeing which hormones and substrates help regulate both processes, and what conditions favor which process to dominate. The student does well with memorization, so I am going to prepare a summary review for him on the processes of glycolysis and gluconeogenesis. I want to make sure that the primary purposes of both processes are very well understood, as his professor has emphasized that these are all that are necessary to memorize and understand. Our next session will be used to cover the pentose phosphate pathway and the citric acid cycle."
"During this session we went over moles, mole conversions, gram formula mass, empirical formula, molecular formula and stoichiometry. We went over questions in the assessment book. She struggled with some of the concepts but gradually understood the concepts. Overall this session went well."
"Today was our first session that covered simple harmonic motion. We discussed transverse, longitudinal, and standing waves. We discussed the concepts behind each type of wave, as well as the equations used to describe them when appropriate. The student showed a strong command of the subject from the get-go!"
