Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student did great on his recent practice essay. With the structure of 10 minutes planning/15 minutes writing, he has enough of a chance to flesh his thesis out and present examples that are relevant and well supported. I am very pleased with his writing progress. We spent more time today on vocabulary and sentence completion. He does consistently well at narrowing the multiple choice to the two best candidates. He has improved quite a bit and is beginning to recognize instances where he may want to leave an answer blank rather than lose points. He will have finished another practice test by the time of our next session so that we can assess his present SAT performance level."
"We talked about the ACT Math, Writing, and Essay sections. The student's attitude was very open to learning new concepts. I left her with extra SAT essay prompts and practice quizzes on certain Math concepts. The student seemed to struggle the most with following the logic of math questions, understanding what they were asking of her. I talked about strategies for identifying what a math problem was asking (drawing a visualization, identifying variables and forming an equation)."
"We reviewed grammar errors. The student did very well with his homework, getting almost all of the questions right. He's still challenged by a few kinds of questions, but he's doing a better job of carefully thinking about problems. I suggested he complete his homework while tracking his time with a watch. I left him a few sections to complete, and I would like for him to work on vocabulary as well. He should be able to complete 4-5 chapters of the text book per week which will significantly improve his vocab scores."
