Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"It was a good session today! We worked on English and Science - in that order. The student's scores are getting high. He has no problem finishing English in time and catches onto his mistakes quickly."
"Today was our last session before the ACT this Saturday. We reviewed strategies from all five sections, with a little extra focus on punctuation review for the English section. I then had the student take a full length practice science test. He was able to complete the section in 26 of the 35 allocated minutes and got a score of 32. I left him with a full length test to practice the other sections once more before Saturday. He's going to do great!"
"The student is taking the ACT in 3 weeks. He did well with his extra practice this week. For Reading, he completed a timed (7:55) natural science passage and correctly answered 9/10 questions. Overall he does well with the reading passages. He worked through one English passage. He had some difficulty with the rhetoric questions. This was rather unusual as he usually has no issues with rhetoric questions, but it may have been due to the informal voice of the passage. We also reviewed comma rules and subject/verb identification. I suggested that he actively use subject/verb id to identify/recognize independent vs dependent clauses. He worked through 2 timed passages, one of which was a comparative passage. He did well with both. For Math, we worked through a variety of difficult level math problems. The student and I talked through 3 essay prompts. I had him identify both sides of the prompt and brainstorm supporting arguments/counter arguments for each side. He seems to be getting more comfortable with the essay. For extra practice, he has 2 English passages, 1 Reading passage, 2 Science passages, and 1 essay to complete before our next meeting."
