Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Began discussing gas laws (PV=nRT and inversely/directly proportional variables); reviewed for assessment exam (fractions, percents (converting between), substitution/solving for variables, PEMDAS). Student initially had difficulty with solving percents (percent of a number, what percent on number is of another, finding number when percent of it is given) but improved throughout the session."
"The student is definitely gaining mastery over the English section of the test. He answers questions on punctuation, verb usage, redundancy, pronoun case quickly and confidently. His one stumbling block last night was on questions that have NOT or EXCEPT in the phrasing. All but one of the questions he missed involved that phrasing. Now that he is fully aware of this habit, he stands to do extremely well on the test."
"We started the session by going over some of the practice English problems that the student did. He did well on these for the most part; we covered the rationale behind the correct answers on problems that he missed and talked about strategies on how to better approach the problems like noticing the similarities in the problems to notice what element the test-makers are changing to tell what detail will determine the correct answer. We then went through part of a Science section and discussed strategies for this section like skipping straight to the questions since most only require referencing a figure or chart."
