Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The first student worked on GCF and LCM; operations on rational numbers; matrices. The second student also is starting Algebra I, at the college level We worked on her first section and looked over the syllabus for math and comm arts."
"We reviewed word practice problems, mostly regarding compound interest and also the quadratic formula. She has a math final the next day."
"We made polyhedra out of toothpicks and craisins. We talked about prisms and pyramids, and about vertices, faces, and edges. We made nets for each shape, and then made a dodecahedron."
"The student and I went over her geometry homework that involved differentiating between parallel, perpendicular, and intersecting lines. We then reviewed some concepts from the past like long division, estimating, and word problems. It was a much better session than the last few weeks."
"In Monday's session, the student worked on the worksheet provided by the school. Later, I had prepared a couple of worksheets for her to work on, and these mainly contained a mix bag of questions on all the concepts that I have covered with her since we started. She managed most of the problems with relative ease. I have left her with some homework (worksheet with mixed questions)."
"Today I worked a great deal with the 100's chart with the student. I want her to be able to do more mental math. We focused on adding by 10 and then continuing on by ones. She was able to transfer this as we tried without the chart in front. In addition, we reviewed greatest common denominator and then compared fractions. Her multiplication facts are really improving, which is making all fraction applications easier."
