Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over a recent graded in-class assignment. Some of the errors the student had made were no longer an issue for him. Also, he showed good skills at graphing lines and solving inequalities on the Cartesian plane. This shows me that he is up to date on the curriculum and he has no problems following and understanding the lectures in class. My strategy now is to show him alternative solution methods to those learned in class and have him improve on his numeracy and arithmetic fluency."
"We started off with test corrections from the last test. She has some trouble thinking conceptually; she always seems to be looking for something much more complicated, rather than applying the definitions. We spent most of our time reviewing trigonometry, including radians, SOH CAH TOA, and the unit circle. Moving forward, we will need to make sure she has all of the fundamentals down."
"We had a good session today. The student did very well on his first test in school. We began by going over the two questions that he got wrong and then started to prepare for his second test coming up on Tuesday, which will cover Chapter 2 topics on fractions and decimals. We spent some time going over several problems dealing with addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of fractions and decimals, respectively, as well as problems regarding conversion from fractions to decimals and vice versa. To finish up this review, I had him complete the Chapter 2 test in his textbook independently, which he did successfully with only one or two calculation errors. Overall, I felt he had a strong understanding of the material. I left him with a few worksheets to review on his own after the session and we continued to move on to Chapter 3 material on algebraic expressions, which we had briefly touched on before in our first session. We discussed how to identify like and unlike terms, how to simplify expressions by combining like terms and using the distributive property with algebraic expressions. For the most part, he was able to work through these problems successfully, however, he did have some issues with some slightly complex simplification problems involving the distributive property. I intend to continue to work through these issues with him in the next session."
"We reviewed problems from the homework which involved more partial fractions, substitution, integration by parts, and splitting both definite and indefinite integrals."
"In preparation for her test Monday, we reviewed differentiation, going over the definition of the derivative, differentiation rules, and derivatives of trig function. We worked problems and she seems very prepared for her test."
"We reviewed the student's homework assignment and then continued our Algebra I review on FOIL. She has a great attitude and her confidence is starting to improve."
