Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We continued going over the material for the student's upcoming quiz and finished her review packet. I told her that she would benefit from going over earlier notes on acids/bases so that she could save time and preparation making sure she was working with the right variables, and also encouraged her to go over her 2 worksheets, as well as her practice test to make sure she is in a better position for the quiz."
"The student and I reviewed two worksheets covering dimensional analysis using Mole ratios. The conversions included grams to Moles, grams to liters, grams to atoms, and grams to molecules. The student displayed great understanding of the major concepts."
"We worked on chemistry. We ended with a lab report on the Mole concept. We also practiced some basic Mole conversions."
"On Wednesday, we focused mainly on naming compounds, as this has been a continual source of struggle for the student. We covered when to use prefixes, when to include Roman numeral charge descriptions, and how to balance charges of ions, where mono- or polyatomic. He was fairly good at developing patterns. For Sunday, he is to develop 10 of his own naming problems, including at least one example from each naming rule we discussed."
"The student and I had a great session. He has a test on Thursday dealing with properties of gases and gas laws. We talked about all of the major points for the test, and did several practice problems dealing with many of the learning targets for the test. We also talked about general strategies that he can use to solve trickier problems, and talked about a plan of action moving forward to the test."
"Some thermochemistry, enthalpies of vap/fusion, specific heat, heat of formation and reaction. calculating average atomic mass, sig fig questions. As this was our first session, we spent some time planning for future sessions as well. The student's attitude was good."
