"We went over topics in thermodynamics, particularly calculations using the ideal gas law, specific heat, and internal energy. We talked about the main idea as making use of all relevant equations (e.g. internal energy) and finding the relationships between calculations using these different equations. We talked about integration by parts, where we understood that we need to select "u" and "dv" from the original problem and solve the problem using the formula given. We didn't derive this formula, since there is no need at this time."
"The student finished her torque problems from her past homework and then worked on her rotational inertia problems. By the end of the session, I had her working through problems on her own, with little to no help from me. After the session, we discussed AP exam prep, and I asked her to start a practice exam as soon as possible to give us a basis for preparation."
"We went over the main concepts the student had to know for her test and practice problems that related to each one. The student was able to do problems from each section, even when I changed around variables and also had a good grasp on the concepts when I asked her what variables meant. The only question she had was with the dissociation factor values for different chemicals which differed in her notes and in her practice problems, but she was determined to ask about it in class to find the answer. Overall, she was in a good position to do well, and I just encouraged her to go over some of the later problems."
"Today the student and I went over topics on evolution. He is able to understand the material but often forgets things quickly. Repeat exposure is the best way to combat this. I will tell him to read a little bit of the chapter every day so that he can remember all the different concepts."
"We reviewed the student's quiz, went over a lab she is working on, and reviewed a PowerPoint about plants. Everything went fine. She has a unit exam on Tuesday. I offered to meet with her Monday night if she felt she needed to."
"Today, we reviewed topics in preparation for the student's upcoming biology test. We reviewed linked genes, along with some of the phases of meiosis. We then did practice questions to include questions concerning Punnett squares, inheritance traits, etc. The student really has a great grasp on this topic, particularly on inheritance traits--which most students usually struggle with. We only did an hour tonight because she seemed to have everything down really well, so I am pretty confident that she should do well on her upcoming exam."
