Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student needed help with statistical tests using software required for her research course. I helped explain the mathematics of the test and together we figured out how to interpret the results."
"The student and I looked over the first 4 chapters of his Stats book to prepare for his midterm. He was very comfortable with the theory but sometimes got mixed up on when to use what technique. He is going to look at the next 2 sections and practice those before our next review."
"Today, we got through a little over half of the "Random Variable and Distributions" portion of his course. Specifically, we focused on the binomial distribution and completed this portion (we have the normal distribution left)."
"Today I began the student's tutoring session by having her choose and complete three LCM word problems. She worked hard to find her answers and many times she had to use trial and error to reach the correct answer. Next, we continued looking over Chapter 1 in her 5th grade math book. I asked her to define a few words that she learned in our past sessions. She did well defining compatible numbers, standard form, expanded form, and quotient. Then she reviewed place value in her workbook up to the millions place. She also practiced estimating while adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing. During the last few minutes the student worked on front-end estimation with adjustments. This was something new for her, but we looked at some examples in her book first. She understood what to do once I explained it to her. She did very well today and she seemed very focused during our session."
"We worked on graphing inequalities and solving equations involving inequalities. The student did a great job with this and caught on the concepts fairly quickly. We wrapped up the session by reviewing graphing and point plotting from chapter 1."
"Today we finished the review packet that the student's teacher assigned. It covered exponents, ratios, and unit conversion. I was surprised today by his quick mental calculations. His ability to do calculations is very good. I think the key to getting his test scores up is to keep him calm and collected."
