Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over how to solve for values of functions and graph functions using the concepts of the domain and range, with a focus on exponential functions. We also went over how to find the x-intercept and the y-intercept, both graphically and algebraically. All of the student's homework questions were answered today. I can tell that the student can achieve a lot when she puts her mind to it and is taught the concepts well."
"We went over the basics. The student is now starting her first semester in algebra and this is a first for me teaching it from the beginning. We covered some exponential functions, combining like terms, and basic vocabulary. This is my first time working with this student and I think she is great. I'm looking forward to more sessions with her."
"This was my first session with this student. We went through linear systems (graphical and numerical solutions, classification). He is shaky on some fundamentals (for example, he has difficulty operating with fractions). He also described difficulty with word problems. For our next session, I asked him to pull together some of his old quizzes so I can get a better sense of where he is with past material from the course. I also asked him to identify some word problems from his textbook so we can work towards getting him more comfortable with these types of problems."
"The student worked on factoring quadratic trinomials with leading coefficients of 1 as well as other values. She sometimes had some difficulty thinking of factors for "c" and "ac," but she has a strong grasp of the overall process. I taught her a few tricks that seemed to help. She was attentive throughout the session and learned quickly."
"The student and I worked on practice problems in preparation for upcoming test. Topics include exponents and using the properties of exponents to solve word problems. She needed to be careful when working with percentage and have the correct decimal points in the calculations. Otherwise, with attention to details and being careful, she is expected to perform well on the test."
"Today, we did solving system of equations using either the elimination method or graphing. The student struggled at first, but once he understood how to do the problem sets, he was able to solve them quickly. We were able to go through 3 pages of his packet."
