Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We discussed the student's ACT scores and his concerns for an upcoming test. He began a practice ACT Math section. He rated his confidence with each question, we discussed relevant formulas, and I provided examples of questions that deploy similar skill sets. His homework is to finish questions 40-60 of a math practice test, complete the worksheets sent via email, and begin studying the formula sheet provided. The student's deductive skills are far above average, and he excels in algebra. We will work more on geometry and understanding the mechanics of a problem before looking at the answer choices."
"I began by introducing the student to the SAT, and he brought up that he hadn't decided between the SAT and ACT and wanted an overview so he could make his decision. At that point, we discussed the two test formats as well as the differences in subject matter, difficulty, and timing. I also had him do practice questions from SAT and ACT prep books in English/writing, reading, and math to get a feel for the varying types of questions. We discussed that the ACT has more advanced math, but that the SAT's problems are often trickier. We noted that the ACT has more questions despite being a shorter test, so there is more of a time crunch. I assigned problems and sections from both tests for homework."
"We went over review sections for math, verbal, and grammar. The student is improving for all sections, but may benefit from some geometry and vocabulary practice. We also went over plans for the upcoming month-including taking practice runs of the entire test for pacing as well as essay practice."
