Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student began reviewing Algebra concepts, expressions with variables, combining like terms, and expressions with variables on both sides."
"Today, I met with the family for the first time. The student is smart with a very capable grasp of mathematics. We are meeting to help him review for his final in the course. We covered the following topics today: Real Numbers Properties, Identities, & Inverses An Introduction to Exponents Evaluating Exponential Expressions Working with Fractions Concepts of Inequality Inequalities and Interval Notation Properties of Absolute Value Evaluating Absolute Value Expressions Operations Considering Signs Prime and Composite Numbers and Their Roots Order of Operations Forms of Conditional Statements Inductive Reasoning Equations and Inequalities An Introduction to Solving Equations Equalities and Identities Equivalent Equations and Equations with No Solution Solving Linear Equations An Introduction to Solving Word Problems Finding Perimeter Solving a Linear Geometry Problem Solving for Constant Velocity Solving a Business Problem Solving a Mixture Problem Solving an Investment Problem Solving for Consecutive Numbers Finding an Average An Introduction to Solving Inequalities Solving Inequalities Solving Word Problems with Inequalities Sets, Intersections, and Unions Solving Compound Inequalities Matching Number Lines with Absolute Value Solving Absolute Value Equations Solving Equations with Two Absolute Value Expressions Solving Absolute Value Inequalities I noticed throughout the course of the session that the student does not seem to want to show his work very often; he seems to want to do it mostly in his head. This is something that we are working toward breaking as far as habits go. I explained to him that it is okay to show your work and show how you know a particular topic. Following the session, we set up another session for Thursday at 4:30. The student will take a practice final on Sunday."
"We went over extra credit and review for the student's final exam. She has improved greatly in all areas of math. She passed her assessment test."
"We went over the student's homework. It was on absolute value functions, domain, range, and the transformation. I explained how she can find them and use the parent function to graph the new function. She understood them, she just needs to practice more. Then we went over her chemistry project, and she finished part of that. She said she will do the rest by herself. She is doing well."
"This was our first meeting. The student informed me that he currently has a 92 in Algebra. He wants to keep his grades up. He would like to have a 97-98. We worked on order of operations, Pythagorean theorem, area of irregular shapes, and some basic Algebra. We reviewed his homework, and he got them all correct. I will email his mom his extra practice. He seemed very engaged and confident."
"This is our first session since the student started school this year. He is doing well in class especially since we went over many of the topics he's covering in class during the summer. During this session, I decided to work on word problems involving setting up and solving equations. He already knows how to solve the equations, he just needs more practice breaking down word problems into literal equations. We will focus on improving these skills for the next few sessions."
