"The student is working on oscillating motion. She worked on a lab that compared the motion of free-fall objects, an object on a spring, and an object moving up and down a hill. She compared how the motions were different/similar and how they were compared to oscillating motions. The student also worked on online homework, using the equations that involve altitude, frequency, period, and velocity."
"We covered topic 9, which included oxidation and reduction. Specifically, we covered redox equations, reactivity and voltaic cells. We also went over practice questions from topic 7. The student is really starting to integrate all of the concepts together and I have seen great improvement and motivation!"
"Today we finished up DNA replication, transcription, and translation. We also went over the differences in these processes between prokaryotes and eukaryotes. Then we went over evolutionary biology. We worked on practice problems for all of these topics. The student had questions about gene regulation that we will cover in our next session. I'm going to send him links to study this topic. I also want him to study heredity, plant biology, and the differences between eukarya, bacteria, and archaea before our next session. We will start next session with a quick equilibrium question."
"Today we went over species interactions, niches, population ecology, and nervous system physiology. The student responded with good questions and provided good examples when I asked him questions for feedback. I am leaving the student with some of the slides I used to discuss our topics, and I provided some analogies for remembering the way a NA/K exchange pump works."
"In this session, we went over conversions and then I tested her on oxidation states and aqueous solutions. She has a test coming up on thermodynamics that we began to prepare her for and I think now that she is more competent with balancing equations and unit conversions that she will feel more confident when tackling the new material for this test. She was much more self aware this week about her mistakes and realizing that she was grasping the major concepts and that any mistakes she made were due to minor arithmetic errors. I look forward to seeing how she has progressed over this weekend and hope her confidence from the session allows her to master some of the new material by herself."
"We reviewed his class material rather than AP prep because he asked me to help him with it. Electroplating and electrochemistry is one of the most difficult concepts introduced so I was happy to clarify for him before his upcoming test."
"We spent the majority of time on electrochemical cells for the homework due on Friday. The student is concerned about the upcoming exam next Monday, and we'll need to go over the review problems on Tuesday in preparation."
"The student and I covered incomplete and codominance in this session. The student is making good progress and was able to complete a lot of the problems on his own. We will do one final session of later tonight to finish the assignment."
"We had a productive session today. We went over a worksheet. We went over some chapter 17 material, namely half life material again and wrapped up chapter 18. Our next lesson will deal with chapter 32.1 and whatever new content he has been assigned next week."
"We covered a new set of materials for the student's new unit. This material was different as it was more ecology based than animal/classification so she had to get used to the different approach. She did seem more confident and willing to engage, which was really good, as she seems to be more willing to cover material to do well in her class. She was able to answer questions pertaining to material very well by the end of the session."
"We worked through 2 previous tests and a review sheet. We covered 2 syntheses using electrophilic aromatic substitution, mechanism for addition of DIBAL to an ester to give the aldehyde, mechanism for the formation of acetophenone with acetic acid and 2 eq phenyl lithium. We ranked electrophilicity of ketone and aldehyde derivatives. We worked thru a problem to determine the structure of two monochlorination products based on NMR data."
