Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Our session went well. She is showing considerable improvement overall. As she continues to practice, her confidence increases. Her skills in mathematics will continue to improve as we do more practice tests."
"We covered several difficult math problems, a science problem set, and a reading problem set. They may need specific training in trig functions. They seemed to readily understand the explanations for all of the questions they got wrong. I would suggest doing a timed reading or English section in order to gauge their current ability level."
"We went over questions in his study guide and on arithmetic reasoning. We covered less than or equal to statements, basic algebraic equations, principle balance equations, square roots, and , distributive property. We also reviewed shapes and their prefixes: tri, quad, penta, hexa, hepta, octa, nona, deca, undeca, and dodeca. We covered averages with a missing variable as well. I also taught him some test taking strategies since it is a timed test. These strategies include: estimation when it comes to converting temperature between C and F, when having to estimate a square root, to start with the letter C and then moving to B or D depending on how close it is to the original answer, and using the ASH method when taking a timed test. The ASH method is when you mentally note if a certain problem can always, sometimes or hardly ever be solved by you. I taught him to do the Always questions first, then move onto the Sometimes questions, and if he has enough time remaining to tackle the Hardly Ever questions. I left him with some extra practice, where I am having him study the material that we went over today and I am having him create a multiplication table to help him memorize the facts. He seemed more than willing to learn the material and he is a great student."
