"We worked on her writing homework for school. She had to write a letter to her teacher about the book 'New Moon' that she is reading. We worked on pulling all of her ideas together."
"Today, the student and I finished reviewing the writing part of his brochure assignment for The Giver. He has a great writing style and is very creative with his prose. He was confident and worked efficiently. There were times when his writing was very vague, making it difficult to understand what he was trying to say, but once we talked about it, he was able to clarify."
"It was great to begin working with the student - he's a bright and very creative young man. His mother and I discussed working more on essay writing - he has no current assignment in school as his class is working more on grammar and mechanics. I read a chapter of a book he's working on that was very well done and we discussed some slight punctuation errors. He was also very interested in some ideas about setting the scene and creating suspense (e.g., not revealing the villain too soon, showing vs. "telling). We then worked on correcting/improving sentence errors which were pretty easy for him but we did some quick fixes mostly with punctuation - he is very adept at correcting slang language that should be converted to proper or academic language. For homework, I gave him a short essay to write based on a writing prompt. We "unpacked" the prompt and discussed some evidence he may discuss to support his stance. We also worked on planning essays as a crucial part of the writing process. He is a great student with an excellent attitude!"
