Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today's session was focused on a topic that the student's class had yet to discuss. Since she just had a test on momentum and collisions, they have not yet moved on to a new topic. She told me that they would be moving onto torque and rotational motion the following week so I went ahead and taught her the concepts of torque so that she is ahead of her class and will have a preview of what is to come. I started the session by explaining the idea of what torque actually is in everyday vocabulary using everyday examples that she can physically see. We then went into the physics definition of what torque is including the mathematical equation that will be used to solve for the torque of an object. We combined these ideas by doing a practice example to calculate various unknowns using everyday situations and the concept of rotational equilibrium. She completed the set of practice problems with no mistakes and seemed to really understand what is happening in each situation with a physics point of view. This is exciting because rotational motion is so highly conceptual that it is very important to understand the basic concepts to build upon to understand the more complex ideas that she will encounter over the next few weeks. I have been giving her challenge questions to see if she would be able to set them up properly and she has been very successful in doing this. I believe that this will help her prepare for the AP exam that she will be taking in a few months. Next session we will go more in depth into torque and she should have an assignment from her class by that point which we can work through together."
"We covered temperature conversions and the Civil War. She struggled the most with converting from Fahrenheit to Celsius. She had a good attitude and was willing to continue practicing. We included a scanning technique when reading material for World History."
"We went over her past midterm and went forward with elimination reactions. The student improved a lot on each subject and did not struggle at all this session."
