Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Continued work with new unit on probability. Student has a really good handle on this subject and was able to work through homework problems with ease. We moved beyond the basic steps of the homework to work through the problems using equations, and she was able to pick up on this quickly as well."
"During this session, the student and I started Chapter 2 in her Mathematics book. This is the next chapter that her teacher will be covering in class. I showed her how to create a Frequency Chart when given a set of data. We also reviewed Bar Graphs and Finding Mean, Median, Mode, and Range."
"We went over the student's chapter six math test. There were two problems she missed because she skipped steps but obviously knew the correct answer. The rest of the incorrect problems were either skipped entirely, or some minor mistakes were made (not multiplying correctly, missing a negative, etc.). Overall, she has one of the highest grades in the class, and I think she has a good grasp on the concepts of chapter six. We moved on to chapter 7 in class this week. She took her own notes for section 7.1, and they looked awesome! We went reviewed the homework to ensure she would do well on her upcoming quiz, and things are looking good here, too. She is learning how to solve systems of equations by graphing, and we talked about the two most important things here: watching the sign of our slope, and making sure our graph is spaced evenly."
"We covered reading comprehension exercises, during which the students had to identify the main idea of the story and corresponding details. We also went over vocabulary from the story that they didn't understand. I also covered math with the girls, which involved working with money. One student had a little trouble understanding when to divide and when to multiply, so we reviewed those concepts."
"The student and I worked on his essay for Julius Caesar---we found several quotes he could use to support his paper on Brutus: character, theme, motivation. He completed the 3 main paragraphs. Wednesday I'm going to bring a laptop (he has a USB) and we can work on typing up and finalizing his paper."
"The student needed to review all his 3rd declension endings tonight for his Latin quiz tomorrow. We went over the teacher's PowerPoint on 3rd declension and used my chart to compare 3rd declension endings to 1st and 2nd. I made up a practice multiple choice quiz that he took and only missed two of the ten questions. With just looking over chapter 7 chart and vocabulary words, he should do well on his quiz."
