Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed for the student's first exam this week. We reviewed concepts, notation, how to know when to use certain formulas, and the steps of the formulas for variance/standard deviation and correlation. We completed a few example questions, and she did very well with both the computations and interpretation."
"The student and I worked on frequency distribution for his statistics class. We covered how to compute the average and variance of a frequency distribution. We talked about the meaning of average and variance in real world applications. We reviewed this material for an upcoming quiz."
"The student and I went over the work for her upcoming Excel assignment to calculate probabilities, expected values, standard deviations, etc, using Excel. She appears to grasp the statistical concepts behind the spreadsheet."
"We are still working on fractions adding and subtracting them, finding common denominators, and working with mixed numbers and improper fractions."
"After review of Lesson 1 Foundations in Unit 12 Rates, the student scored 100% on the Lesson Checkpoint quiz. Lesson 2 Rates as Comparisons and Lesson 3 on Unit Rate required the same skills as Lesson 1 and were therefore completed quickly with 100% correct answers. The student understands how to write the rate fraction from the word problem and how to find the equivalent fraction or divide to find unit rate. He is able to subtract fractions, change fractions to decimals to make work easier, name points on the number line, and visualize changes in units. We noted that in these lessons the term "unit" is challenging because both meanings are used: unit means 1 and it also means the words that go with numbers in a math story. The student is almost finished with the math curriculum and continues to show growth and enthusiasm."
"We worked on fractions and addition with whole numbers. I assigned a few more tests to make sure the student understands the concepts."
