Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"-Final day before the exam. -We worked through a packet, reviewing word problems, fractions, timelines, and division. -I left the students with some flashcards and went over some last minute test-taking strategies."
"Today the student and I started by working on a large packet of math problems geared towards state testing. The packet consisted of a large variety of topics, most of which were easy for the student. He student didn't have much trouble with the majority of them, but he missed a few because of simple mistakes. He says he's been finishing his practice state tests with a significant amount of time left over, so I told him to make sure to go back over all the questions to make sure he didn't make any similar mistakes. The rest of the session was spent going over material for his science test on the classification of different biological organisms, as well as quick overviews of the different kingdoms of life and viruses. We also went through the book and reviewed the study guide his teacher had prepared for him."
"The student completed math problems from her workbook, we played a game known as math bingo, and we played a general math game to reinforce concepts."
"The student is continuing showing progress with his problem solving skills. He is learning to write down key information and learning to recognize what the question is asking. We will be covering probability next session."
"I tested every child using flash cards on multiplication tables. We need to work on the basics before we move into other areas. We used my computer to do division and word problems for formative evaluation. We will work on math vocabulary, too. We tried fractions using a whiteboard to determine their understanding of the whole and its parts. We scheduled another session for next Thursday."
"We practiced the skills he is working on in class. He continues to work on word problems with adding and subtracting where he needs to use keywords to decide the proper operation. He color-coded the questions for adding and subtracting like he did in school, and did well with simplifying. Choosing all of the correct words for the label in the answer is his biggest struggle right now."
