Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over some problems to assess where to begin. We are currently working on transposing, exponents and algebraic expressions."
"The student and I worked on her review packet which covered graphing, properties of exponents, factoring/solving quadratics, solving systems, adding/subtracting polynomials, and word problems. She went through each problem and I guided her with the ones she struggled with. I noted the ones she has the most trouble with (adding and subtracting polynomials and exponents) and explained to her how to do them, as well as gave her practice problems to try on her. She did very well with the practice problems after I explained to her the concepts."
"We reviewed the material for the last quarter. We did about one problem for every topic or concept covered during the year."
"For the math portion of the lesson, we discussed the properties of square roots and radicals. For homework, I left him with problems from a practice exam. This is the final lesson for math, which means that for the remainder of our time together, we will be reviewing everything learned up until this point. For the science portion of the lesson, we went over the homework assignment from the previous session, which involved practice with concepts involving the physics of waves. For homework, he has to finish the packet I gave him, which asks questions on the reading."
"We went through the student's study guide for the CLEP Algebra exam. Some problems she remembered how to do, but many she didn't. She made notes and reminders for topics she needs to practice more. We went through most of the 80 question study guide and made a lot of progress."
"Today the student and I started working our way through her textbook in an Algebra 1 review. I started off with chapter 1 from the textbook and we did a few example problems together from each section. We were able to make our way to chapter 5, doing a few problems for each section. She did very well; she is especially good at mental math and able to reason her way through problems. We will begin doing more difficult problems in our next few sessions but I felt like she had a very strong beginning today and she did not seem to struggle with any concept in particular. There were a few topics that she recognized and was able to do herself after watching me do an example problem. We will continue where we ended in chapter 5 during our next session."
